Vellum Fern & Flora Card
Sometimes it’s the little details that take a handmade card from pretty to “Oh, I love that!” And on this card, that detail is definitely the embossed vellum!
I created this beautiful thank-you card with Stampin’ Up!’s Fern & Flora Bundle, layering several leafy fern die cuts for lots of dimension and texture. I love the combination of the deep blue and rich greens, but what really makes the layers pop is that soft panel of vellum behind the focal image.
Consider this your reminder not to forget about vellum when you’re making cards! 😊
Vellum is one of those supplies that can easily get tucked away in our craft rooms, but it adds so much to a project without overwhelming the design. It’s especially gorgeous when you run it through an embossing folder. The embossed design becomes more noticeable on the translucent vellum, giving you beautiful texture while still allowing the colors underneath to peek through.
For this card, the embossed vellum creates a delicate botanical frame around the center panel and coordinates perfectly with all those gorgeous fern images.
The “thankful for you” sentiment finishes it off perfectly. This would be a wonderful card to send to a friend, customer, family member, or anyone who deserves a little reminder that you appreciate them.
Try this on your next card:
Pull out that package of vellum you’ve been saving and experiment with it!
You can:
- Emboss it with your favorite embossing folder
- Layer it over Designer Series Paper
- Tuck it behind a focal image to soften the background
- Die cut it into leaves, flowers, or shapes
- Use it as a subtle layer when your card needs “something more” without adding another bold color
And definitely try embossing it! It’s such an easy technique, but it gives vellum an entirely new look.
