Watercolored Rolling Waves Birthday Card
There’s something so relaxing about creating ocean-inspired cards, and this birthday card featuring the Stampin’ Up! Rolling Waves Bundle perfectly captures the beauty of the shoreline! This card was inspired by my friend and amazing Artisan team member, Tami Hewlett!
For this card, I started by creating a soft watercolor background using Coastal Cabana, the perfect ocean color! After adding the color to the Watercolor Paper, I added some salt for a foaming wave effect.
The watercoloring gives the card a dreamy, beachy feel and creates the perfect backdrop for the layered wave die cuts. The delicate white waves add wonderful texture and movement, making it look as though the surf is gently rolling onto the shore.
To create the sandy beach, I watercolored in Crumb Cake ink and stamped some starfish images in the same color for a touch of seaside charm. A cluster of tropical foliage paired with a simple twine bow adds dimension and draws the eye toward the focal point of the card.
The sentiment is stamped in coastal Cabana ink and framed with a stitched label die from the Sweet Words & Labels dies, providing the perfect finishing touch. I love how the clean white elements contrast against the soft watercoloring and help the design feel fresh and airy.
One of my favorite things about the Rolling Waves Bundle is how versatile it is. Whether you’re creating birthday cards, vacation-themed projects, masculine cards, or summer scrapbook layouts, the wave dies and coordinating stamps make it easy to bring the beauty of the ocean to your paper crafting projects.
If you haven’t tried watercoloring with your cardmaking supplies yet, this is a wonderful project to start with. The organic, imperfect nature of watercoloring pairs beautifully with beach and ocean themes, making every card unique.
